Chiang Rai and Surroundings
Chiang Rai in general
The old Lanna capital Chiang Rai, founded by King Mengrai, is a thriving city that is growing. She doesn't have her younger sister's wooden house charm Chiang Mai, but it boasts interesting museums in and around the city and the night bazaar is also worth a visit. 2022 is Chiang Rai an up-and-coming small town and capital of the province of the same name. Only 60 kilometers from the border crossing too Myanmar Mae Sai / Tachilek away, lies Chiang Rai central in the province and is a good location for exploring the area. The city center is still very cozy with its temples, markets and restaurants, tourism is not as advanced as in Chiang Mai. Chiang Rai stands for contemporary art, here you will find two famous museums, the White Temple and the Black House, close together. The city center is best explored on foot or by tricycle taxi.
Vegetation of Chiang Rai Province
The savannah climate zone can be used very well by humans - because both agriculture and animal husbandry are possible. Field crops such as corn, millet or peanuts are grown here with a great deal of irrigation - but cotton and tobacco are also grown here. Livestock in this region are cattle, sheep and goats. However, both agriculture and animal husbandry in this region have a decisive disadvantage, as both consume a lot of water. And water is a rare and precious commodity in this part of the world.
